    3. Applications from the Stackgini Catalog without any connection to the internal portfolio
    4. Why is this distinction important?

1. Introduction

In Stackgini, users can work with solutions from the Stackgini Catalog (Market), such as Salesforce, DATEV, etc., as well as define their own portfolio applications in the internal portfolio – e.g., an individually configured Salesforce instance. Often, these two versions are similar, but not the same.

To account for these differences in solution research, we distinguish between:

  • Solutions that actually exist in the portfolio (e.g., the company's own Salesforce instance)

  • Solutions that are only linked to the internal portfolio but were not created directly in the portfolio inventory itself - the third-party app as it is available on the market

  • Solutions that have no connection to the internal portfolio

2. Application Types

Stackgini uses different data sources for the different application types.

You can find a detailed description of how to manage the internal portfolio here: How to Manage Your Internal Application Portfolio.

a. Internal Portfolio Applications

This green icon indicates that the solution in question was created directly in the internal portfolio.

What data is used? In the internal portfolio, you or your organization manage the underlying data yourselves.

b. Applications from the Stackgini Catalog with a connection to the internal portfolio

This grey icon identifies an application that comes from the Stackgini Catalog (market data) and is linked with an internal application from the portfolio.

What data is used? Stackgini maintains the underlying data for you.

c. Applications from the Stackgini Catalog without any connection to the internal portfolio

The absence of an icon indicates an application that comes from the Stackgini Catalog (Market) and is neither listed in the portfolio nor linked to an application there.

d. Why is this distinction important?

This visual distinction helps you to recognize at a glance:

  • Which solution is your own, individually maintained application?

  • Which solution comes from the market but has already been assigned by you?

Especially with applications of the same name or standardized products (e.g., DATEV, Salesforce), this separation is crucial: An internally used application can be heavily customized or extended and thus differ functionally from the original market offering.
